Pros and Cons of Building a Home
The Benefits and Drawbacks of Building a Home
Many people weigh the options of building a home versus buying a home for years. Though both options have advantages and disadvantages, in the end most people are happier with building a home. One of the most appealing advantages to building a home is that it is custom fit to the homeowners needs. Most home builders have a specific vision of how they want the home to look. By building, instead of buying, owners get to have their dream home. Usually those who do build their dream home never move again because the house fits them perfectly.
There is also the added benefit of choosing the area. Many times those who buy a home end up settling for the area that it is in. However, in building a home the person can choose the area that they love.
Another benefit of building a home is financial. Usually people who build their own home pay far less than those who buy a home and are paying a mortgage. Thus, many people who build a home are able to be debt free much more sooner than those who pay a mortgage. In addition, most people who build a home have been saving for years; this may mean no payment at all.
The disadvantages of building a home come from the stress of building a home. There are so many decisions to make concerning everything. Since the home is being built from scratch there has to be a decision on things as small as what type of door knobs to the type of light fixtures the family wants. Therefore, at time it can nerve racking and stressful. This has been known to lead to problems within the family causing added stress.
Another disadvantage to building a home is the amount of time it takes. Depending on weather conditions, some families have been known to wait almost a year to move into their home. If a family were to buy a home the normal move in time ranges about a month or less since already built homes are ready as soon as an agreement is reached.
Building a home or buying a home is really up to the person. The ability to create something unique and is catered to your every whim, such as having a bathroom for every bedroom. This type of want will be hard to find in an already built home. The most important thing to remember when building a home is to take it one step at a time. Make the decisions with your partner so one person does not feel loaded down with all the work. Doing with someone will make it a much painless situation to deal with.
